Research Fellow in Disaster Medicine and/or Public Health (Quantitative Research)


CRIMEDIM - Center for Research and Training in Disaster Medicine, Humanitarian Aid and Global Health is seeking an enthusiastic Research Fellow with a background in disaster medicine and/or public health and experience of undertaking quantitative research in disaster and humanitarian settings.

CRIMEDIM is an interdisciplinary academic center of the Università del Piemonte Orientale and a World Health Organization Collaborating Center since 2016. CRIMEDIM’s projects revolve around health system resilience strengthening, access to care as well as community preparedness and response to emergencies and disasters, both in high-income countries and fragile and conflict-affected settings. CRIMEDIM has a long-lasting experience in capacity-building for disaster preparedness and response at different levels within the health sector, as well as in enhancing research in emergency and disaster risk management. The new Research Fellow will be involved in a multidisciplinary and international environment, and s/he will participate in several collaborative research projects in the field of global health, humanitarian aid and disaster medicine.


  • Proven experience in epidemiological methods and quantitative analysis.

  • Strong statistical skills using a statistical package (STATA and/or R).

  • Strong understanding of disaster medicine and public health concepts.

  • Proven experience working with large databases.

  • Ability to develop and validate questionnaires. 

  • Commitment to working collaboratively in an international and interdisciplinary team.

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Effective organization skills.


  • Research fellowship, one-year full time fixed term contract from spring 2023 (assegno di ricerca for the Italian University rules).

Research and Training specialist in the field of disaster medicine

CRIMEDIM - Center for Research and Training in Disaster Medicine, Humanitarian Aid and Global Health, with a broad experience in promoting and coordinating research and training projects in emergency and disaster medicine, is looking for a Research and Training Specialist in the field of Emergency and Disaster Medicine.

The professional will be involved in a multidisciplinary and international environment and s/he will oversee the planning and management of innovative training projects in disaster and humanitarian settings in close collaboration with the scientific coordinator.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordination of a team working on education and training in emergency and disaster medicine within ongoing European and World Health Organization projects.

  • Development and coordination of pioneering training projects for health professionals in disaster response and humanitarian assistance.

  • Planning and organization of simulation exercises, training events, and workshops. 

  • Participation in research activities related to disaster and humanitarian settings.


  • PhD (preferable).

  • Physicians, Nurses or Paramedics qualification.

  • Relevant knowledge of the emergency, disaster, and humanitarian landscape.

  • Previous experience in planning and delivering training courses in the field of emergency and disaster medicine.

  • Great interest in technologies and new tools to improve the effectiveness of emergency and disaster response.

  • Ability to use academic search engines.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills to communicate effectively with diverse organizations, professions, and backgrounds.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.

  • Fluency in English speaking and writing.


  • One-year fixed term full-time contract (renewable).
