New perspectives on the nuclear issue in Italy
NECESSITY is a project financed by the Bando Ricerca UPO 2022 with funds from European Commission - NextGeneration EU and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. Team members are Samuele Poy (PI), Carmen Aina, Francesco Della Corte, Massimiliano Panella, Marta Ruspa. Research collaborators are Luca Ragazzoni, Eliana Baici, Andrea Conti, Marco Serale.
The project aims at contributing to the debate on the “nuclear issue” in Italy with several goals: (1) Elaborate on the effects that shocking past events (specifically, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, 1986) had on anti-nuclear votes; (2) Collect fresh data on public opinion towards nuclear energy, knowledge about the technology, risk perceptions and preparedness of citizens to nuclear accidents (results here); (3) Investigate preparedness of public health services (hospitals) in case of chemical, biological, radiological and, specifically, nuclear emergencies (CBRN); (4) Increase knowledge and awareness on the topic by working with stakeholders, citizens, healthcare professionals and policy makers.
CRIMEDIM is part of the research team and will have a prominent role in investigating the preparedness of both citizens and public health services to manage CBRN major disasters.
