Martina Valente holds a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Eastern Piedmont (Alessandria, Italy), and she completed a Master’s degree in Global Health Research and a PhD in Health Sciences at the Athena Institute, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
From 2021 to 2025, she held a postdoctoral research position at CRIMEDIM, where she was involved in several research and academic activities. She is currently an assistant professor (fixed-term, RTDA position) in Public Health at CRIMEDIM and at the Department for Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition (DISSTE), University of Eastern Piedmont (Vercelli, Italy).
Martina contributes to the coordination of training and tutoring activities within CRIMEDIM’s international PhD programme. She is also Principal Investigator and team member in both funded and non-funded research projects in collaboration with international organisations and local health authorities. Among these is the Horizon Europe project Mountadapt.
Her research focuses on public health and disasters, health system preparedness and response to extreme weather events, the impact of such events on health systems, access to care in humanitarian crises and/or disasters, and issues of vulnerability and inequality in disaster settings.
