Areej is a trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Resident in Scotland. She holds a BSc (Hons) Medicine (University of St Andrews - 2015), followed by a MBChB at University of Aberdeen (2018), a MSc Disaster Medicine (EMDM) at Università del Piemonte Orientale/ Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2023) and a DMCC (Worshipful Society of Apothecaries Faculty of Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine - 2025).
Currently pursuiing a PhD at CRIMEDIM in Disaster Medicine, Humanitarian Aid and Global Health. Her research area of interest focuses on WHO EMT, Disaster Risk and Landmines and ERW.
Within CRIMEDIM, Areej is actively involved in the European Master in Disaster Medicine as thesis supervisor and as tutor, as well as tutor for the Master of Science in Disaster and Health Crisis Management, specifically on Disaster Law and Human Rights, Geography of Conflicts, Disasters and Health Crises. She is also involved in teaching and facilitating on TdmT, DisasterSISM, EMTCC.
