Elena holds a BSc in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Biology Applied to Research in Biomedicine from the University of Milan, Italy. She began her research career as an intern at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan and later worked on tropical infectious diseases with the University of Pavia, including field missions in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. She subsequently completed a MSc in Global Health at Maastricht University, the Netherlands.
Until 2025, Elena worked in the International Cooperation with various NGOs, including Doctors with Africa CUAMM through the Italian Universal Civil Service in Tanzania, AVSI as an intern in Ivory Coast, and INTERSOS as a Project Officer in Sicily, Italy.
She is currently a first-year PhD candidate at CRIMEDIM. Her work builds on her field experience and research interests in global health, health emergencies, outbreak and epidemic management, and health system preparedness and strengthening.
