Current Director of CRIMEDIM. Associate Professor at the Università del Piemonte Orientale, medical doctor specialized in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, and PhD in Disaster Medicine. Course Director of the center’s three main academic programs: 1) the EMDM – European Master in Disaster Medicine (Advanced Master of Science in collaboration with the Vrije Universiteit Brussels), 2) the Master of Science in Disaster and Health Crisis Management, and 3) the Doctoral Program in Global Health, Humanitarian Aid, and Disaster Medicine.
He is the principal investigator of several operational research projects on disaster-related topics, including the Horizon Europe project PREPSHIELD – Preparedness for Society in Health Crises and Disasters, and the DG-ECHO project TEAMS – Training for Emergency Medical Teams. He has also collaboratively secured several European and non-European grants.
He has authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications and has extensive field experience, having been deployed to disaster-stricken areas for United Nations, Governmental, and Non-Governmental Organizations. He is also a member of the expert team designated by the Italian Ministry of Health to oversee the monitoring of the national influenza pandemic plan.
