Paolo Malerba
I am a PhD candidate at CRIMEDIM, previously graduated from the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery of the University of Pavia in 2017. In November 2023 I completed the School of Specialisation in Internal Medicine at the University of Brescia. During the past years, I have been involved in clinical research projects focusing on cardiovascular diseases and risk factors, with a main focus on hypertension and microcirculation. From 2021 to 2023 I have been working as a physician at the General Medicine Department of the Montichiari's Hospital.
My main research interests range from global health to humanitarian aid and the impact of armed conflicts on health systems and healthcare. I am a researcher and advocate for ensuring social justice, promoting health as a fundamental human right and focusing on marginalized populations and their access to care.
My PhD research project, RHD-CORE, focuses on the impact of the Sudanese armed conflict (2023-ongoing) on the continuity of care for rheumatic heart disease patients and on the resilience strategies adopted to ensure access to healthcare for this population. The RHD-CORE project is in partnership with the Italian NGO EMERGENCY.
